I have a feeling that the same theories that we applied to the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States and their allies is happening in this new age of globalization and the environment. This game theory is called Zero-Sum.
It’s a battle between what is good for the environment and what is bad for economics. I used to work summer jobs at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming/Montana/Idaho. As employees we would do the best to recycle everything we could and then compost the rest. But, sometimes I felt like we would be forever on the losing side, because even the tourists would not recycle anything. It was hypocritical I thought. They were there to “appreciate” the wildlife and environment, but not take any part of being part of the solution.
I think people not doing things green is because they think it will turn to socialism and/or communism. They think doing things that may not benefit themselves is closer to socialism and/or communism. There can be two things that can happen. We can slowly destroy the environment and we will not survive and we could change for the benefit of society and environment and survive.
