Green Politics

I’m sure we’ve all heard more than enough about offshore drilling at this point, but I just had to follow up my first post on offshore drilling with the extreme disappointment I’m feeling right now about the situation. It seems to me the American voters are being taken advantage of. Gas prices are high - too high for most people - and it’s a desperate time, a delicate time for politicians to be making promises about these “solutions” like offshore drilling. I was reading this article by Russ Britt on Market Watch today, and this statement really struck me:

And while Obama seems to have more experts agreeing with him, McCain has much of the electorate on his side - at least while gas prices are at $4-$5 a gallon.

Now that President Bush has lifted the ban, it’s up to Congress to lift their own separate ban,  and then up to the states whether or not they want to allow drilling. The problem is, why, if so many experts agree about the length of time before we see results and the length of time the results will be favorable, do so many people still support offshore drilling? And more importantly, what can be done about it? I’d like to welcome everyone to share some input on this problem and commiserate with me!
