Save the Priuses!

I recently read another good article from David Pogue, the jolly and funny tech-geek-in-chief for the New York Times.  Apparently he has been a bit distressed lately over his inability to buy a new Toyota Prius for his family (and oh yeah - for the environment).  After promising him they had exactly the car he wanted, his dealership later tells him inexplicably that they don’t have it and what’s more there’s now a 50-plus person waitlist just to get a base-model edition of this coveted ride.

So, if you are a potential Prius buyer (and you really want to do the right thing in the environmental sense, right?), then stop and think about it for a minute.  Do you have a career in real estate sales?  Do you commute from Boulder, CO to Denver every day for work (and lunch in Golden)?  Are you a folk guitarist who tours all the best dive bars across the country?  Does your current car permanently smell like pizza?  No, nothing of the sort?  Then what the heck do you think you need a Prius for?  Admit it - you want to be hip and show the world that you’re a part of the green club, and the Prius is de rigueur, right?  Nope! - you don’t need a Prius to be green and sometimes the right thing to do is let the folks who really need them have them first until there are plenty to go around.
